Teenagers and Car Accidents

According to a study released by the Texas Transportation Institute, nighttime driving is becoming more dangerous for teenagers and the likely cause is talking and texting on cell phones while driving.

The CDC report also states that In 2015, 2,333 teens in the United States ages 16–19 were killed and 221,313 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes in 2014.  That means that six teens ages 16–19 died every day from motor vehicle injuries.

While the increase in nighttime crashes in the older age group may be attributed to alcohol use, the study pointed to driver distraction caused by cell phone use as a likely cause of the increase in driving deaths among younger drivers. According to the TTI, 2,800 U.S. teens die each year in car crashes
